Lamiah Gholar [Chicago, IL] is an artist + designer, wellness worker and founder of forthcoming lifestyle brand Weki Anchi. Formally trained in painting from age 9 through her undergraduate BFA studies at University of Illinois, she is currently embracing fragmented identity as a channel for myth making. Her childhood upbringing in rural Mississippi and lineage of west African + Native American farmers serves as impetus for research of southern Black Atlantic visual + material culture. Her studio practice oscillates between painting, printmaking, photography, drawing, sculpture, sound + collage. Weaving together narratives rooted in metamorphosis by way of tradition breaking and subsequently building, visual cacophonies emerge through the process of scavenging and assembling various motifs, marks, and colors.

Aside from her work as a studio artist, Gholar is working in the wellness industry as a RYT-200 Certified yoga instructor.
